PROVENANCE [ OAK BARK LEATHER BAGS ]
The oak bark hide used for the Holford Holdall comes from one of Britain’s oldest tanneries – it has been on the same site since Roman times. Each hide of leather is sourced from Britain, cured and tanned using natural vegetable dies and then dripped in traditional leather grease to set and enhance the wonderfully rich tones. It also makes the bag virtually waterproof.
Each piece is hand cut and stitched together using a combination of hand and machine sewing.
The character of leather will vary for every individual bag, making each one of a kind.
Before leaving the tannery our leather is treated with a blend of waxes and oils which among other things offer suppleness and water resistance. With time and use the oak bark tanned leather softens and becomes more flexible.
To maintain durability apply a hide food every 6 months or so. If used in wet conditions we recommend you maintain the water resistance of the bag with a water resistant wax. This will also avoid dye staining.
