The River Tone Teba Jacket

Sale price£770 GBP

A jacket with strong roots in European royal history, the original Teba jacket was produced in London's iconic Savile Row for King Alfonso XIII of Spain. The former king, then later gifted the garment to his long-time friend, the Count of Teba. Since then, this style of jacket has been referred to as "The Teba", from its formal influences and sartorial background.

Justo Gimeno has since made this design an icon of the Spanish wardrobe, crafting a version of "The Teba" set in the traditional shape and characteristics.

Presented in a shade of forest green, from a woollen based twill tweed structure, chosen for its durable properties, which serve well through adverse weather conditions and cold snaps. The open texture of the jacket is rugged with a soft element, creating a sturdy nature that is built to last.

Fox Tweed is designed to see one through many adventures, due to its hard-wearing composition. The distinguishing attribute of the twill weave is a diagonal rib pattern, produced from a high thread count. An opaque and coarse fabric weighing 480/510g.

Beautifully lined with 'Fox Lining', to contrast well against the main green structure of the jacket. Produced in a two-tone colourway, reminiscent of Somerset's open arable fields on the plateau top, combined with the steep natural slopes and heavily wooded intimate valleys. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, the Cupro lining also provides protection and a fluid drape to the piece.

The jacket features many characteristics including a 3-button fastening, stitched edges, patch pockets, buttonable cuffs and a convenient internal pocket to button.

PROVENANCE [ THE FOX TEBA JACKET ]

Made in Fox Cloth by Justo Gimeno in Zarragoza

The first Teba Jacket was created on Savile Row for the need of King Alfonso XIII of Spain. As he was a hunter, this light and comfortable jacket was ideal for the practice of his favorite sport. The King offered, in act of generosity, this jacket to one of his friends and hunting partners, the Count of Teba, who rigorously wore it during all his excursions in the Spanish countryside. Since then, the jacket took the name of its new owner: Teba.

Justo Gimeno’s started in 1885 when he travelled to Argentina and began training as a tailor. When he returned to Spain, he opened his first workshop at Zaragoza, the city where Justo Gimeno is still operating today. Since that time Gimeno’s family realized high quality, British inspired, casual and hunting clothes. One of their famous products is the iconic Teba Jacket, well-known all over Spain.

Fox Brothers, the English woollen mill established in Somerset in 1772 is credited with being the originator of fine woollen and worsted flannels during the last century and is still said to produce the best in the world. According to style connoisseurs, when choosing flannel, “always be sure to ask for it (Fox) by name”.
